Love, Hate Relationship with Film
Film??? What??? Who uses film in this digital age...??? ME! I love film. I love the sound the camera makes, I love the weight of the camera, there is just something special about film. The thing with film is, you have to be sure to take your time to compose each shot - you can't just delete it if you don't like it. You have to be sure you capture exactly what you want to capture because you can't "chimp", check the back of the camera immediately, you have to take in the beauty you are about to capture instead of pushing that button over and over again. Even the "grain" on the picture, just adds a certain feeling to it.
Now comes the hate part - the waiting and waiting to have your film developed. Do you remember back in the day when you could have it developed "in one hour"!? Now, if you are even lucky to find a place that will develop film (yeah good luck asking a teenager if they develop film - they look at you and say "film?") it takes days for the process to begin! Patience, my loyal readers, is not my strong suit... Then there is the cost of developing said roll of film. The other day for a Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, I decided to take my film camera - 4 rolls of film later and $40 to just get my negatives and a cd.
So this is my love hate relationship. I would love to do a portrait shoot one day again with my film camera - anyone patient enough to wait? Maybe I should just go back to my roots and develop it myself!
Here are some recent street photography from the Worldwide Photowalk in Cape May NJ.
