Wow, that's a depressing title huh? But it doesn't have to be - stick around, grab a cup of coffee, I'll wait...
As I've mentioned before, part of the reason I decided to make photography a career is because one of my first paid sessions was for a woman who was dying, she wanted desperately to not look sickly in her photographs so her daughter would have something to remember her by. Before I could deliver her photographs, she passed away. Sad, so you think, but it doesn't have to be. For you see, we were able to deliver the photographs to this persons father - leaving a lasting image of a mother who cared for her daughter enough to do this. Guess what? Because we print on paper that lasts 100 years (200 if kept in the dark) - her family will be able to have those photographs for a very, very long time.
We have a VERY OLD (her age is in question, but she's pretty ancient) Golden Retriever, who we have affectionately named "The Queen of England" because we don't ever think she will pass away (which is fine too). Anyway, my best friend had a portrait drawn of her so one day if she passes away, it will bring us memories.
What do you cherish? A usb? How about let's consider this...when my grandparents were called to the great beyond, it was the 70's/80's/90's - I have a photograph of my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary that I cherish. I also have a photograph of my grandfather holding me as an infant. If that photographer sold "digital negatives" - I would have nothing because let's face it - you would throw it in a drawer meaning to print them someday because hey, that drug store is cheaper than any photographer, right??? Well, they would be on a "floppy disk" something a lot of Millennials have no concept what a floppy even is. Technology changes but- photographs don't if they are printed on lab quality archival paper. (Or not technology like we know it now - all would be lost)
Sometimes, we remember to take photographs of the young ones, the babies, because yes they change so quickly! But don't forget who we have become.
See, this wasn't so horrendously sad was it? You too can cherish your loved ones, even your pets after their passing. They have given so much to you - why not remember them - even into the future. By the way, how was your coffee? Want to capture your precious family at the end of life? Call us, let us work out something incredible for you - we can come to your home if it is easier on those loved ones (pets).
